Saskatchewan Fiddle Jam Tunes OCYC This Jam Book features fiddle tunes in a new format. There are four tunes on a two-page spread to be played together as a medley rather than just playing one tune at a time. Musicians can enjoy playing without stopping to find the next tune in the medley.
I'm always on the search for a comprehensive fiddle tune book. I've have loads of them but I've yet to see one that fits this description: mostly bluegrass and old-time standard notation only basic versions of the melody (no ornamentation or personalized versions) I guess a fake book of fiddle tunes is what I want.
Seems there would be a good market for one. "The Wearing of the Green" is a traditional Irish folk song that dates back to the Irish Rebellion of when the Irish rose up against the British. At that time, wearing green clothing or shamrocks was considered a rebellious act in and of itself, potentially even punishable by death.

Interesting to note that a number of older Cape Breton fiddle tunes and some Donegal fiddle tunes are done in AEAE tuning, which points to Scottish influence. We have to recall that mainstream Scottish fiddling underwent a strong classicising in the early 19th century, so you have to go to Cape Breton and Donegal to see glimpses of what.

This is a lovely book, which starts with tunes at beginner level (fingerings marked) and has text in Shetland dialect. BONAPARTE’S RETREAT This version of the classic old-time fiddle tune “Bonaparte’s Retreat” comes from Tommy Jarrell. It’s a two-part tune in DDAD tuning, with the highest and lowest strings tuned down to D and used primarily as drones.
“Bonaparte’s Retreat” has a march feel, and the bowing matches the rhythm of the melody. This collection includes nearly + scores with sheet music and mandolin tablatures for traditional, folk and old songs. No lyrics are included but most of the lyrics wll be found on our songs-midis collection and the + Folk Songs Lyrics collection.
Songs from many genres will be found, including: bluegrass, old-time, Christian, Celtic (Irish, & Scottish), English, Welsh, Canadian. Charles Wolfe (Mountains of Music, John Lilly ed., ) thinks Kanawha County, West Virginia, fiddler Clark Kessinger () may have learned the tune growing up in the Kanawha Valley.
Kessinger re-recorded the tune in the s, although the liner notes to his album states that he learned Poca River from Jarvis.
